M2 junctions 5 to 7 drainage and barrier upgrade

As we need to remove the old barriers to complete our work, there are narrow lanes on the M2 to keep everyone on the motorway safe until our work is finished.

We've started our work in the central reservation, and in late-April we'll be moving the narrow lanes to allow us to carry out improvements to the drainage and barriers on hard shoulder. To do this, we'll need to close each carriageway for around ten nights. We'll provide more details of when these closures will be as work progresses.

This work is currently planned to run until summer 2024.

M2 junction 5 improvement scheme

Friday 16 to Monday 19 February: the A249 northbound will be closed between the M20 junction 7 and the Stockbury Roundabout from 8pm tonight (Friday 16 February) to 5am Monday 19 February.

When the A249 northbound reopens on Monday 19 February, the Church Hill exit will remain closed until 5am Saturday 30 March. This will allow us to build the new junction with Church Hill.

Friday 23 February to Saturday 30 March: the A249 southbound will be closed from the Stockbury Roundabout to Church Hill, along with the M2 junction 5 London-bound exit slip, from 8pm Friday 23 February to 5am Saturday 30 March, while we're constructing the new A249 carriageways to the south of the roundabout.

Please note, there will be no access to the A249 from Oad Street or South Green Lane during this time.
